On last weeks’ episode of the Bonus Round, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton relieved our suspicions of a future PlayStation 4 that does not play used games. According to industry analyst Michael Pachter Jack Tretton said that he “opposes” blocking second hand games on consoles. This is good news for GameStop since its income is primarily based on used games sales.
While on the Bonus Round Pachter explained that when he directly asked Tretton if the rumors were true, Tretton Stated, that he was “opposed to blocking used games.” Tretton also declared that it would be “anti-consumer” to block them. After the statement Tretton admitted that this was just his view and that “Japan may think something different.” Let us all pray that Mr. Tretton gets his way so we can play used games on Sony’s newest console whenever it is released.
