Recently at a shareholders meeting in Japan, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that the company had thought about the possibility of an Xbox Live-style for-pay online service, but didn’t think it was the right course to take.
According to Andriasang, during the meeting a shareholder asked about the possibility that Nintendo would charge for a membership to be part of the Wii U “Miiverse.” In return, Iwata explained to the shareholder that the company that at the moment the company is thinking about a service that will allow both the Wii U and other devices to connect to the consoles’ online network, but feels that an online subscription fee would impede the potential growth of the platform. Good job Nintendo! You made the right choice.
