Ghost Recon Alpha available to LOVEFiLM users

The hotly anticipated Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Solider is set for hit the shelves at the end of this month. This particular entry in the long running series has been of special interest to me, it looks like it could be bringing something entirely new the the genre. To celebrate the impending release, Ubisoft have announced the premier of a  live-action short film titled Ghost Recon Alpha.

Ghost Recon Alpha follows a ghost team deep behind enemy lines, tasked to put a stop to a deal between two of the world’s biggest war criminals. Like the game, the movie is set in a near future world, recognisable but still more advanced. The film is fast paced and action packed is a very exciting introduction to the game. It runs at just over 19 minutes long, not including the credits and doesn’t really let up on the viewer the entire runtime.

A number of features that have been seen in pre release material for the game make appearances in the film also. The augmented reality visors and holographic displays look very smart. We also see the flying unmanned drone kicking ass as well as the optic camouflage drape and a few other things.

Being a  prequel to the game, Ghost Recon Alpha‘s events are heavily intertwined with those of Future Solider. Both the film and the game will feature the same cast of main/playable characters, the events of the game will also show the consequences of the events that take place in Alpha. As a nice little feature, the primary location seen in the short film will also make an appearance in the game as one of its multiplayer maps.

Finally, rumour has it that there is a secret code hidden somewhere within the video. Anyone who finds this code will gain access to an exclusive weapon for their game; however it is only available to Xbox360 and PC players. Oddly specific rumour.

Anyone who is planning to pick up Future Solider should really consider taking a look at Alpha beforehand, because if your interest wasn’t piqued before, it will be afterwards. Ghost Recon Alpha is just a taster of what is to come with the eventual release of Ghost Recon: Future Solider, it’s a mightily impressive film and can be found on LOVEFiLM’s website. here.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier is scheduled to release for the Xbox360 and PlayStation3 on May 25th, and for PC on June 15th, 2012.
