In the recent issue of the Japanese childrens magazine, CoroCoro, there have been some further details announced about the upcoming Pokémon games Black 2 and White 2.
In the past, these extra versions have followed the same plot as their predecessor versions, the changes being minor but nemerous to things such as locations and visuals. Black/White 2 seem to be taking this in an entirely new direction as the game features two entirely new player characters, new rivals and is set two years after the events of Black/White version.
Despite still being set in the Unova region, things have changed over the past two years, the area has become much more icy than it had been in the past, and several of the gym leaders have been replaces. The new game features a guitar playing poison type specialist and a water type specialist. There are a lot of new locations popping up and the existing ones are quite different than before.
The game also starts in a different city, with what looks like a different professor, the player characters also being completely new along with their rival. Also, being set two years after the first gen five games, they will have a completely new plot other than focusing on the whole Team Plasma thing. The plot undoubtedly centres around Kyuren, the Pokémon on the cover, it’s quite the step away from what is normally seen as a formulaic series.
Returning fans will be happy to hear that the game’s cast of Pokémon has been doubled since the last game, with the catchable Pokés during the first parts of the game not being restricted to gen five. So you can have a squad of old Pokémon if you’re the type to complain about ice creams.

Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 are due for a June release in Japan, and will be out in the Autumn in the west on the Nintendo DS.
