Activision Lays Off Team Behind The Prototype Series, Radical Entertainment

Today GameInformer.com released a story that may make your stomach’s turn a little upside-down. Activision confirmed that there have been significant layoffs at Vancouver-based Radical Entertainment; may I remind you that this is the team behind the Prototype franchise. Due to all of the layoffs, the developer will no longer produce any titles for Activision.

According to an Activision Spokesman “Radical is a very talented studio and has been a great partner to Activision. Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience.” This is severely disturbing to me.

The man went on to say ”Following an exploration of a wide range of options, it was determined that closing Radical Entertainment as a creative entity was the only option.”Only a few of the employees that got laid off will be working at Activision while the remainder of workers will have to seek new jobs.

Activision justified itself by stating that the studio will not be shutting down entirely at this time. ”We met with the team and are currently exploring various options for the future of the studio including a potential sale of the business. ”Our preference would be to keep the team together, however, it is too early to say anything further at this time.”

Radical Entertainment released the titles Prototype, Prototype 2, Scarface: The World is Yours and The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. The developer had around 90 people employed. Oh my god…. no words…. Ugghhhhh I think I’m going to be sick.
